Case Study: MVHR in award-winning low energy retrofit project in Tunbridge Wells

We’re very pleased that one of our MVHR design, supply and commissioning projects has won an award for the best positive addition as part of a deep retrofit and extension of an existing home at the 2025 AJ Retrofit & Reuse Awards.

The project was called Meadow Road and you can read about it here on Architect’s Journal.

The Victorian home in Tunbridge Wells had not been renovated for 50 years and was originally cold, damp and not very healthy to live in.

Our client was determined to create a comfortable, low-energy home without removing the historical features that provide so much character, and an MVHR system that worked with the traditional features of the property was a part of that as we worked really hard to route ducting within joist lines and above coving and original ceilings.

Innovative timber-frame extension build system to retrofit home

We managed to find duct routes to keep ceilings high, original coving in place and still provide great airflow across the property.

Combined with this our clients also built a two-storey extension with a timber frame system that can be locked and unlocked into place – meaning that even at the end of its life it can be deconstructed and used again.

The renovated home features internal lime plaster/ woodfibre insulation, MVHR and ASHP.

We were really impressed with the beautiful finished home when we came to commission the MVHR system, and the lime plaster walls were really smooth and warm-feeling on a cold day.

We’re taking on new MVHR projects every day into 2026 and beyond, so if you’d like to discuss your own project please get in touch via the Contact Us page or via the free MVHR sizing tool.
